Service Designer (SC Clearance) – 3‑Month Contract

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to join a government‑focused project on a three‑month contract. The role is hybrid, with 2‑3 days on‑site in London, and requires an active Security Clearance (SC).

Key responsibilities

• Plan, lead and deliver service design activities for a public service, from discovery through to delivery.
• Apply a range of research methods such as stakeholder interviews and contextual inquiry.
• Synthesise findings into problem statements, user journeys, service blueprints and flow diagrams.
• Translate insights into strategic priorities and design recommendations that shape product roadmaps.
• Collaborate with User Researchers, Interaction Designers, Business Analysts and Technical leads to ensure insight‑driven outputs.
• Communicate findings through visual artefacts, presentations and stakeholder play‑backs.
• Facilitate workshops, playback sessions and show‑and‑tells to build cross‑functional alignment.

Required profile

• Proven experience working to GDS service standards and advocating for them.
• Strong portfolio or case studies demonstrating research that led to successful service outcomes.
• Demonstrable expertise in creating user journey maps or end‑to‑end diagrams.
• Excellent storytelling and communication skills, able to present complex information clearly.
• Ability to think beyond the brief while staying aware of project constraints.
