Site Engineer – Night Shift (Roof Refurbishment)

About the role

Our tier‑1 main contractor client is seeking a Site Engineer to join a high‑profile roof refurbishment project at a major Birmingham rail station. The role is night‑shift based and involves controlling engineering accuracy, quality assurance and safety while the roof is de‑constructed and rebuilt.

Key responsibilities

• Establish, maintain and verify site control points on the roof structure.
• Carry out precise setting‑out, dimensional checks and laser‑scanning surveys for secondary steelwork and cladding brackets.
• Interpret engineering drawings, digital models and specifications, resolving design clashes with the Section Engineer.
• Complete daily Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), recording check sheets, torque logs and weld inspections.
• Raise and manage As‑Built surveys and documentation for Network Rail handover.
• Identify and report non‑conformances (NCRs) promptly.
• Assist in monitoring specialist steel and façade subcontractors against approved RAMS.
• Prepare daily site diaries, material take‑offs and progress reports.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Site Engineer with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor.
• Degree or HND/HNC in Civil, Structural or related engineering discipline.
• Valid CSCS card.
• Eligibility to live and work in the UK.

Required skills

• Proficiency with modern surveying equipment (Total Stations, Leica, Trimble).
• Competence in CAD software for layout checking.
• Experience with laser‑scanning surveys.
• Knowledge of structural steel installation and façade refurbishment.
