Software Engineer – Infrastructure (SWE Developer Foundations)

About the role

Apple’s SWE Developer Foundations team builds the infrastructure and tools that enable software engineers to create the best products. As a Software Engineer in this group you will design, implement, and improve large‑scale build and distributed systems that support Apple’s operating system engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain distributed services and tooling primarily in Swift.
• Deploy services frequently using Kubernetes and profile changes with Xcode or distributed tracing tools.
• Design algorithms, optimise performance, and conduct performance testing to scale systems.
• Research and apply established distributed‑system techniques to Apple’s unique domain.
• Collaborate with engineers across Apple’s technology, tools, and OS stack.

Required profile

• Experience building and operating distributed storage or compute systems.
• Strong interest in distributed systems, reliability, and cloud services.
• Ability to develop, debug, and support new technologies in a fast‑changing environment.
• Experience with high‑performance, strongly typed languages (e.g., Swift, Rust, C++, Scala).
