Specialty Doctor – Palliative Care (Ayrshire)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Specialty Doctor in Palliative Care to join our multidisciplinary hospice team in Ayrshire. The role offers the chance to provide person‑centred specialist medical care across inpatient and community settings while developing expertise within a consultant‑led service.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist palliative care to patients in hospice inpatient and community environments.
• Admit patients, perform accurate medication reconciliation and maintain comprehensive medical records.
• Participate in a non‑resident on‑call rota (1 in 6) to provide out‑of‑hours specialist advice.
• Supervise and educate junior colleagues, contributing to a culture of learning.
• Engage in clinical improvement activities, risk management and audit of care.
• Liaise with GPs, hospital consultants, community nurses and allied health professionals for coordinated patient care.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a current licence to practise.
• Completion of foundation training and at least two years of post‑foundation experience in palliative medicine.
• Post‑graduate membership (e.g., MRCP, MRCGP) – desirable.
• Post‑graduate qualification in education or palliative care – desirable.
• Completion of a communication skills course – desirable.
