Staff Engineer, Frontend

About the role

Primer builds the unified infrastructure for global payments, giving finance teams visibility and control. The Account Experience team owns the merchant platform that powers setup, daily operations, and the AI‑driven companion interface. As a Staff Engineer, Frontend you will set technical direction across multiple product areas while staying hands‑on where it matters most.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive front‑end strategy across Account Experience, shaping architecture, component systems, and performance budgets.
• Own the architecture of a complex, data‑dense merchant platform, ensuring scalability and coherence across Setup, Monitors, Workflows, and Auditing.
• Guide the evolution of Primer AI Companion as a first‑class merchant interface, integrating conversational UI with native performance.
• Mentor engineers across teams, lead code and design reviews, and champion accessibility, observability, and performance as first‑class concerns.
• Partner with Product, Design, and backend engineers to align front‑end constraints and opportunities with broader product goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating at staff or principal level, setting front‑end direction across multiple teams.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and React, with a track record of architecting long‑lived web applications.
• Strong judgment and communication skills, able to make technical decisions clear to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Comfort reasoning about APIs and services, collaborating as an equal with backend engineers.
