Staff Engineer – Test Integration, Modelling & Simulation

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a seasoned C++ engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of high‑performance modelling and simulation software for flight system integration. You will work with a dynamic team to create scalable, real‑time simulation solutions and integrate third‑party hardware and software.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and maintenance of high‑performance C++ software for complex systems.
• Architect robust, scalable simulation solutions for systems‑of‑systems and real‑time processing.
• Drive integration of third‑party software and hardware into comprehensive architectures.
• Set technical standards and mentor engineers to promote best practices.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure project alignment and delivery.
• Implement modern agile practices, including continuous integration and test‑driven development.
• Tackle complex debugging and optimization challenges to enhance system performance.
• Explore and adopt new technologies to stay at the forefront of the field.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience (or equivalent with an advanced degree).
• Advanced professional experience in software engineering and systems integration.
• Strong knowledge of design patterns and system‑level engineering principles.
• Proven success leading projects with 10+ contributors.
• Exceptional problem‑solving ability and efficient work style.

Required skills

• Modern C++ (C++17/20) and familiarity with legacy C++98/03.
• Python programming.
• Linux development environment.
• Docker or other containerization tools.
• CI/CD pipelines and test‑driven development.
• Design patterns and system architecture.
• Experience with gRPC, REST APIs, and message queues (ActiveMQ, ZeroMQ).
• Build tools such as CMake and Conan.
