Tax Investigations Director – Lead Complex HMRC Enquiries

About the role

We are partnering with leading professional services and accountancy firms in London to appoint a Tax Investigations Director. This senior position will lead high‑value HMRC enquiries, advise high‑net‑worth individuals and large corporates, and shape the growth of a market‑leading tax practice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex HMRC investigations, enquiries and tax dispute engagements.
• Provide strategic advice on investigation strategy, disclosures and settlement negotiations.
• Manage and nurture key client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser.
• Lead, mentor and develop teams of tax investigations professionals.
• Support partners on high‑value, sensitive client matters.
• Identify business development opportunities and contribute to practice growth.
• Build market presence and strengthen stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• Significant experience in tax investigations, disputes, controversy or HMRC enquiries.
• ACA, CTA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Strong technical tax expertise combined with commercial awareness.
• Proven track record in managing complex client relationships.
• Leadership experience within a professional services environment.
• Demonstrated business development success and ambition to progress towards Partner level.
