Traffic Engineer

About the role

Bristol City Council is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to lead the delivery of traffic and transport projects that improve safety, sustainability and accessibility across the city. The role sits within the Transport Service and offers a hybrid working model, allowing you to balance office collaboration with remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design and implementation of highway infrastructure and traffic management schemes.
• Provide expert advice to elected members, stakeholders and the public on transport matters.
• Manage project timelines, budgets and resources to meet agreed objectives.
• Interpret and communicate complex technical information to support decision‑making.
• Contribute to service development, innovation and continuous improvement within the Transport Division.

Required profile

• Relevant qualifications or substantial experience in traffic engineering, transport planning or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of transport legislation, TSRGD 2016 and Traffic Regulation Order procedures.
• Proven ability to manage projects, solve complex problems and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience delivering technical work and prioritising competing demands.
