Senior Traffic Engineer

About the role

The Senior Traffic Engineer will lead high‑profile transport projects that shape Bristol’s future mobility. Working within the City Transport team, you will provide expert technical advice and develop innovative solutions for safer, more sustainable travel across the city.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate complex traffic and transport projects from inception to delivery.
• Provide specialist technical expertise and authoritative advice across the Transport Service.
• Develop and implement solutions that improve Bristol’s transport network and service delivery.
• Build effective partnerships with internal teams, external organisations and stakeholders.
• Manage project resources, monitor progress and ensure delivery against targets and timescales.
• Support service improvement, innovation and the development of transport strategies and objectives.

Required profile

• Significant experience in traffic engineering, transport planning or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to lead projects and deliver high‑level technical expertise.
• Strong capability to interpret legislation, manage competing priorities and communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
• Experience of project management, stakeholder engagement and collaborative working.
• In‑depth knowledge of TSRGD 2016 and Traffic Regulation Order procedures.
