VAT Manager

About the role

You will join a large, complex organisation with a global reputation for excellence and innovation. As a senior member of the finance team, you will lead VAT compliance and advisory functions, shaping tax strategy and supporting senior leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage VAT and other taxes, including PESM and CGS adjustments.
• Advise on VAT implications for research funding, capital projects and international collaborations.
• Develop tax‑efficient practices and maintain strong relationships with HMRC.
• Lead a small team, deliver training and engage stakeholders across the organisation.
• Identify opportunities for VAT savings and process improvements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in tax advisory and compliance, preferably in a complex or public‑sector environment.
• In‑depth knowledge of UK tax legislation, particularly VAT.
• A recognised tax or accountancy qualification (CTA or equivalent).
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise competing demands and meet tight deadlines.
