Year 5 Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Year 5 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming OFSTED ‘Good’ primary school in Northfield, Birmingham. You will work alongside the class teacher to support whole‑class learning and deliver targeted small‑group interventions for pupils with SEMH, autism and behavioural needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide whole‑class support within a Year 5 classroom.
• Deliver small‑group interventions focusing on literacy, numeracy and social development.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour strategies.
• Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and implement support plans.
• Promote a calm, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Required profile

• Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent).
• Previous experience in Key Stage 2, preferably Upper KS2.
• Experience supporting pupils with autism, SEMH and challenging behaviour.
• Strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable with a genuine passion for helping children reach their potential.
