1-1 Functional Skills Tutor (SEN) – St Helens

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated 1‑1 Functional Skills Tutor to support students in the St Helens area. The role combines classroom tuition of core GCSE functional skills with mentoring activities that help young people integrate into the community, develop CVs, and plan for their future.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one tuition in functional skills (English, maths, ICT) to pupils.
• Provide mentoring support, including local trips, life‑skills coaching, and career guidance.
• Assist students with CV writing, future planning, and community integration.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Proven experience working with SEND or disengaged learners.
• UK teaching experience, creativity, patience, and a willingness to think outside the box.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• Two professional child‑related references.

Required skills

• Knowledge of functional skills curricula (GCSE level).
• Understanding of SEND legislation and best practices.
