1-2-1 Teaching Assistant – Key Stage 4 SEMH Support

About the role

This full‑time, temporary position provides one‑to‑one support for a Key Stage 4 female student with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will act as a mentor and advocate, helping the student engage with lessons, manage emotions and build confidence throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver dedicated 1‑2‑1 assistance during lessons to improve engagement and progress.
• Support emotional regulation and behaviour management using agreed strategies.
• Foster a trusting, supportive relationship that encourages attendance and wellbeing.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals.
• Monitor and report on the student’s progress, wellbeing and participation.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND or other barriers to learning.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
