1:1 Primary Teaching Assistant – KS1 Autism Support

About the role

This position provides dedicated 1:1 support for a KS1 child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a warm primary school environment. The role starts as soon as possible and runs until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 assistance to a pre‑verbal KS1 pupil with ASD.
• Facilitate communication using Now & Next boards, visual timetables and other visual aids.
• Support phonics‑based activities and early literacy tasks.
• Promote the child’s social and emotional development.
• Provide personal care when required.
• Collaborate closely with the SENCO, class teacher and external specialists.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with ASD and complex needs.
• Confidence using visual support tools such as Now & Next boards, visual timetables and PECS.
• Understanding of phonics in early literacy development.
• Patient, nurturing and able to build trust and consistency.
• Comfortable with providing personal care.

What we offer

• Full‑time, long‑term contract until the end of the academic year (extension likely).
• Daily rate of £95‑£110, paid weekly.
