1:1 Secondary Teaching Assistant

About the role

This position offers a dedicated, one‑to‑one teaching assistant role in a community‑focused secondary school. You will support a single student across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, helping them access the curriculum and develop academically and personally throughout the full academic year.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 academic, emotional and social support throughout the school day.
• Adapt learning materials and activities to match the student’s individual needs and learning style.
• Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team to monitor and report progress.
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive engagement in classroom activities.
• Implement strategies outlined in the student’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Required profile

• Experience supporting children or young people, preferably on a 1:1 basis in an educational or care setting.
• Warm, empathetic and resilient attitude with strong relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to changing daily needs.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
