1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for Year 1 (Full‑time)

About the role
We are seeking an experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a primary school in Preston. The role is full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8:45 am to 3:15 pm, providing dedicated assistance throughout the school day.
Key responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for the pupil across the entire school day.
- Encourage engagement in learning activities and help develop attention and concentration skills.
- Use visual supports and ASD‑friendly communication strategies.
- Support the child’s social, emotional and behavioural development.
- Implement guidance from the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
- Monitor and manage transitions between activities and environments.
- Ensure the child’s safety and wellbeing at all times and record observations as required.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting children with ASD and complex communication needs.
- Understanding of strategies for non‑verbal children.
- Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
- Patient, resilient and proactive approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with school staff.
