1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School

About the role

This full‑time position supports a newly enrolled pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder and additional learning difficulties in a mainstream primary classroom. The assistant will help the child settle, engage with lessons and develop confidence throughout the academic year.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support within the classroom.
• Assist the pupil in following school routines and adapting to the environment.
• Facilitate access to learning activities and use strategies to aid communication and emotional regulation.
• Promote independence and participation wherever possible.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.
• Follow and contribute to the individual support plan.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASD.
• Background in a primary school or similar educational setting.
• Patient, nurturing, consistent and able to build strong professional relationships.
• Understanding of routine, structure and clear communication.
