1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (Secondary School)

About the role

We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a secondary school student with special educational needs in Hackney. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and the wider support team to ensure the pupil accesses learning and builds confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student with SEN throughout the school day.
• Adapt learning activities to meet the student's individual needs.
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions.
• Support the student's emotional wellbeing and behaviour using positive strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, parents and external professionals.
• Monitor progress and give feedback on development.
• Assist with classroom activities and contribute to an inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs, ideally in a secondary school.
• Patient, empathetic and committed to helping every student succeed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, adaptable and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Relevant qualifications in education or SEND are advantageous but not essential.
