1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 1 (Part‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a caring 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with general special educational needs in a primary school in Preston. The role is part‑time, 15 hours per week, and focuses on helping the child access the curriculum and develop socially and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one support during the 8:45 am‑11:45 am session.
• Work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored learning strategies and interventions.
• Encourage the pupil’s independence, confidence and engagement in lessons.
• Support the child’s social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs where required.
• Monitor progress and give feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
• Promote a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children in a primary school setting.
• Understanding of Special Educational Needs and inclusive classroom practices.
• Patient, nurturing and supportive attitude.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Flexible and proactive approach.
