1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 1 SEND Unit

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with complex additional needs in a specialist SEND unit at a primary school in Westminster, London. The pupil is a non‑verbal, highly sensory‑seeking child with autism who is very active and requires a calm, patient and proactive adult to build a positive, trusting relationship. You will work closely with the experienced teaching assistant who leads the unit, as well as with teachers and support staff, to deliver consistent, high‑quality support tailored to the child’s individual needs. The role runs full‑time from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, starting September 2026 and continuing until at least July 2027.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year experience working in EYFS or KS1.
• Previous experience supporting children with autism and complex SEND.
• A nurturing, resilient and positive approach.
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential.
