1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary (Year 3)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a verbal, low‑level ASD child in a Year 3 class at a primary school in Wythenshawe, Manchester. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the pupil receives tailored assistance and can fully engage in classroom activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to the assigned pupil throughout the school day.
• Assist the child with understanding and completing classroom tasks and activities.
• Implement individualized strategies and interventions to promote learning and development.
• Foster a positive, inclusive environment that builds the child’s confidence and independence.
• Collaborate with the teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adapt support as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children who have special educational needs, especially verbal, low‑level ASD.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students.
• Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to diverse learning needs.
• Ability to follow direction from the class teacher and SENCO and work as part of a team.
• Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equality in education.
