1:1 Teaching Assistant

About the role

In this post, you'll be working one‑on‑one with a young person on an EHCP. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN professional or someone passionate about supporting children with diverse educational needs in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small group support to pupils with special educational needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
• Support pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
• Help implement and monitor Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning targets.
• Encourage positive behaviour and support pupils in developing independence and confidence.
• Adapt resources and learning materials to meet individual pupil needs.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers.
• Support pupils with personal care requirements where necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour.
• Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare requirements are always met.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children with special educational needs in a school or educational setting.
• Understanding of a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
• Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
• Good organisational and time‑management skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEN support (preferred).
• Positive, proactive, and professional attitude.
