1:1 Teaching Assistant – Support SEN Pupils

About the role

In this position you will work one‑to‑one with a young person who has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). You will support the pupil’s academic, social and emotional development within a nurturing, inclusive school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with special educational needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
• Support pupils with academic, social, emotional and personal development.
• Help implement and monitor EHCPs and individual learning targets.
• Encourage positive behaviour and foster independence and confidence.
• Adapt resources and learning materials to meet individual needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and parents/carers.
• Provide personal care support where necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour.
• Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare requirements are met.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children with special educational needs in a school or educational setting.
• Understanding of a range of SEN, including ASC, ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
• Good organisational and time‑management skills.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or SEN support (preferred).
• Positive, proactive and professional attitude.
