1:1 Tutor for Children in Care (Flexible Hours)

About the role

We are seeking compassionate 1:1 Tutors to support children in alternative provision across the South Tyneside area. The position runs for a full academic year and offers you the flexibility to work between 2 and 6 hours each day, either face‑to‑face or online.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individualised tuition sessions in English and Maths.
• Design and adapt lesson plans to meet each learner’s EHCP and PEP targets.
• Encourage confidence, motivation and engagement through supportive teaching approaches.
• Collaborate with virtual schools, carers, social workers and education settings to ensure coordinated support.
• Monitor, record and report student progress, contributing to ongoing educational planning.

Required profile

• Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting vulnerable young people, especially those in care or with SEMH needs.
• Understanding of the challenges faced by children in the care system.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse abilities and learning styles.
• Patient, reliable and committed to helping young people succeed.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel across North Yorkshire.
• Teaching qualification (QTS or QTLS) is advantageous but not essential.
