2nd Line Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a proactive 2nd Line Engineer to join our Newcastle team and provide end‑to‑end support for a diverse portfolio of client environments. You will work across Azure, Microsoft 365, VMware/Citrix and on‑prem infrastructure, becoming the trusted voice when issues arise.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver first‑line and second‑line support for desktop, server and network incidents.
• Diagnose and resolve issues under time pressure, from user workstations to complex server problems.
• Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy Objects and Exchange services.
• Configure and troubleshoot networking components such as TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls and wireless.
• Manage firewalls (Fortigate, Cisco, SonicWall, WatchGuard) and backup solutions (Azure, Veeam).
• Support virtualisation platforms including Hyper‑V, VMware, Azure Virtual Desktop and RDS.
• Provide expert guidance on Microsoft 365, O365 and MFA implementations.
• Document solutions and share knowledge with the wider team.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in a similar IT support role, preferably within an MSP or customer‑facing environment.
• Strong passion for enterprise technologies, networking, servers, cloud and security.
• Willingness to travel to client sites across the UK when required.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure/365, VMware VCP, Citrix, Veeam) are a plus.
