5‑Axis CNC Machinist – Large‑Format Components

About the role

We are recruiting for a skilled 5‑axis CNC Machinist to join a leading precision‑engineering business in Tameside. The role focuses on programming, setting up and operating large‑format CNC gantry mills to produce complex, high‑tolerance components for demanding industrial sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Set, operate and edit programmes on large‑format 5‑axis CNC machining centres.
• Manufacture precision components from engineering drawings and specifications.
• Machine a variety of materials to tight tolerances and select optimal tooling.
• Conduct in‑process inspection using standard measuring equipment.
• Identify and resolve machining issues to maintain productivity and quality.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to meet delivery targets.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health & safety.

Required profile

• Proven experience setting and operating 5‑axis CNC gantry mills.
• Experience machining large‑format or heavy engineering components.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of tooling, feeds, speeds and machining strategies.
• Track record of working to tight tolerances and demanding quality standards.
• Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
