Accountant – Banking Finance Team

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Accountant to join the small finance team of an international bank’s UK branch in the City of London. The role involves preparing accurate financial information, ensuring compliance with UK regulations, and supporting the Head of Finance on key projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial accounting information in full compliance with UK regulatory requirements.
• Complete and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• Prepare financial statements and support auditors during external assurance reviews.
• Produce daily P&L with variance analysis and commentary.
• Investigate and resolve accounting movement queries for the UK branch.
• Review and monitor General Ledger accounts.
• Maintain up‑to‑date departmental procedures.
• Assist the Head of Finance on departmental projects and system improvements.
• Provide support and training to finance team members as needed.

Required profile

• Accounting experience within the banking sector (essential).
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or finalist status).
• Strong understanding of UK accounting principles, banking regulations and financial products.
• Portuguese language skills are desirable.
