Accountant – Chester (Full‑time, £30‑45k)

About the role

We are seeking an Accountant to join a growing practice in Chester. The role involves managing a client portfolio, preparing statutory accounts and tax returns, and providing day‑to‑day support. It is ideal for a part‑qualified, newly qualified or practice‑trained accountant looking to develop technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Prepare and submit corporation tax and personal tax returns.
• Manage a portfolio of clients and act as the primary point of contact.
• Review bookkeeping records and produce year‑end journals.
• Prepare management accounts where required.
• Liaise with clients to gather information and resolve queries.
• Support junior staff with technical queries and workload management.
• Ensure work complies with accounting standards and internal procedures.
• Meet deadlines while maintaining high accuracy.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an accountancy practice.
• AAT qualified, or part‑qualified ACA/ACCA, or qualified by experience.
• Strong understanding of UK accounting principles.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Confident communicator with a professional client‑service approach.
• Desirable: experience with SME accounts, cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage), and basic tax knowledge.
