Accountant – Hybrid, Bury

About the role

We are partnering with a growing accounting practice in Bury that seeks an experienced, client‑focused Accountant. You will own a diverse portfolio of small‑ and medium‑sized businesses, sole traders and partnerships, delivering high‑quality financial services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all accounting and financial matters for assigned clients.
• Prepare year‑end financial statements, including profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow.
• Maintain accurate records and produce periodic management reports.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns, corporation tax and personal tax filings.
• Provide strategic tax planning, budgeting and cash‑flow advice.
• Handle HMRC queries and ensure compliance.
• Oversee payroll processing and related regulatory requirements.
• Support clients with Xero and QuickBooks set‑ups and training.
• Assist with internal and external audit preparation.
• Mentor junior team members and support their development.

Required profile

• AAT Level 4 minimum, or ACA, ACCA, CIMA equivalent.
• At least three years’ experience in an accounting practice.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build client relationships.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
• Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Interest in mentoring junior colleagues.
