Accountant – Online Retail Finance

About the role

Our client, a fast‑paced and growing online retail business based in Marlow, is looking for a hands‑on Accountant to manage the full accounting cycle for its retail entities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end financial accounting and bookkeeping for designated online retail trading entities, including purchase and sales ledgers, stock, journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Own accounts receivable and payable processes, ensuring timely invoicing, credit control and payment processing.
• Perform bank, credit‑card, payment‑gateway and intercompany reconciliations, and maintain fixed‑asset registers and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly management accounts – profit and loss, balance sheet and cash‑flow – and support month‑end close to timetable.
• Produce variance analysis, budgets, forecasts and cash‑flow management, and provide ad‑hoc financial analysis for commercial decisions.
• Reconcile ecommerce revenue across platforms, sales channels, payment providers and banking receipts.
• Support inventory accounting, stock reconciliations and gross‑margin analysis, monitoring sales, returns, discounts and fulfilment costs.
• Assist with VAT returns, audit requests and other statutory compliance, maintaining robust financial controls and documentation.

Required profile

• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced trading environment.
• Strong understanding of finance processes relevant to online retail, including revenue reconciliation, stock accounting and multi‑channel sales reporting.
