Accountant – Practice‑Based Role in Cheltenham

About the role

This position is with a well‑established accountancy practice in Cheltenham, delivering accountancy, tax and business advisory services to owner‑managed businesses, SMEs and private clients. The role is ideal for a practice‑trained accountant who wants to deepen technical expertise while building long‑term client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Prepare corporation tax returns and personal tax returns.
• Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as the main point of contact.
• Produce management accounts, financial reports and support bookkeeping using cloud accounting software.
• Provide business and financial advice to support client growth.
• Liaise directly with HMRC on client matters.
• Review work prepared by junior staff and support year‑end compliance.
• Identify opportunities to improve client processes and efficiencies.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification by experience.
• Previous experience within an accountancy practice.
• Strong accounts preparation skills and experience with corporation and personal tax returns.
• Good working knowledge of UK accounting standards.
• Excellent communication and client relationship abilities.
