Accounts Assistant – Bookkeeping & Xero

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant to join our client’s finance team in Aylesbury on an immediate basis. The role is hands‑on, focused on clearing a backlog of transactions while maintaining day‑to‑day accounting functions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and reduce a backlog of finance transactions.
• Raise and process sales invoices.
• Process purchase invoices and supplier payments.
• Handle accounts receivable, including receipt allocation and reconciliations.
• Perform bank reconciliations.
• Assist with month‑end processes and reporting, including journal posting and review.
• Prepare and support VAT returns.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers.
• Provide ad‑hoc accounting support to the finance team.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and financial controls.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Bookkeeper, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
• Immediate availability to start and work full‑time on‑site.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy workload independently.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Xero accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data analysis).
