Accounts Assistant – Fixed-Term Finance Role

About the role

We are recruiting an Accounts Assistant on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to join a friendly, supportive finance team in Edinburgh. You will manage day‑to‑day financial administration for your own portfolio while gaining exposure across the transactional finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Sales Ledger activities, including raising invoices, credit control and maintaining accurate customer records.
• Process Purchase Ledger invoices, coordinate approvals and prepare payment runs.
• Complete weekly bank downloads, process deposits and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns via Making Tax Digital (MTD).
• Complete recharge reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
• Maintain finance control sheets and ensure financial records are accurate and up to date.
• Process staff expenses and support internal recharge processes.
• Assist with general finance administration and provide support with ad‑hoc tasks as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
• Strong Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger experience.
• Experience completing bank reconciliations and working within month‑end processes.
• Good working knowledge of Excel and accounting systems (Sage experience advantageous).
• Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage own workload and prioritise competing deadlines.
• Proactive team player with strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
