Accounts Assistant – Practice (Burnham-on-Sea)

About the role

We are seeking an Accounts Assistant to join a well‑established accountancy practice in Burnham‑on‑Sea. The role offers a varied workload, supportive team environment and strong development opportunities for someone looking to build a long‑term career in practice.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing year‑end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Prepare bookkeeping records and complete VAT returns.
• Support the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns.
• Work with cloud accounting software, primarily Xero and QuickBooks.
• Liaise with clients to resolve day‑to‑day accounting queries.
• Provide assistance to senior team members on a range of accounting assignments.

Required profile

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
• Motivation to develop technical knowledge and client‑facing skills.
• Organised, accurate, proactive with excellent communication.
• AAT qualification or studies towards AAT, ACA or ACCA is advantageous but not essential.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software.
