Accounts Assistant – Sales & Purchase Ledger

About the role

This permanent position supports the finance team of a construction‑focused organisation. You will handle both sales and purchase ledger activities, ensuring accurate processing of transactions and maintaining strong customer relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Upload bank transactions and post receipts to the cashbook.
• Issue sales orders, verify information, credit availability and agreed terms.
• Process sales invoices, ensuring accuracy and input to e‑invoicing systems where required.
• Process purchase invoices onto the finance system.
• Maintain the subcontract ledger, including CIS returns and insurance file updates.
• Handle ledger queries from internal and external sources, issue and reconcile statements, and keep company contact information up to date.
• Perform month‑end closure and reconcile ledgers to the balance sheet.
• Provide cash‑flow information to the Financial Controller/Management Accountant.
• Conduct credit control activities: contact customers before due dates, record notes, resolve issues, and develop relationships to secure timely payments.

Required profile

• Experience working with sales and purchase ledgers.
• Sound customer‑relations experience (desirable).
• Basic accounts skills (desirable).
• Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent in English and Maths.

Required skills

• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with e‑invoicing systems.
