Accounts Manager – Client Portfolio & Team Leadership

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to lead a client portfolio and mentor junior staff within a regional accountancy practice based in Axminster. The role combines client management, technical accounting work and opportunities for career progression.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring accounting and tax compliance to the highest standard.
• Prepare and review statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
• Prepare and review corporate and personal tax returns and tax computations.
• Review VAT returns and ensure compliance with current legislation.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted point of contact.
• Supervise workflow across the team and support the development of junior colleagues.
• Work alongside Partners and Directors on specialist assignments and technical projects.
• Liaise with HMRC and Companies House on behalf of clients.
• Ensure work is completed in line with professional standards and internal quality procedures.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified accountant (or part‑qualified/qualified‑by‑experience candidates with significant practice experience).
• Strong technical background gained within an accountancy practice.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence to build lasting client relationships.
• Experience supervising or mentoring team members is highly advantageous.
