Acting Senior Editor – Primary Care Journal

About the role

We are seeking an Acting Senior Editor to lead the editorial process for The Lancet Primary Care, a gold open‑access journal dedicated to high‑impact primary‑care research. This maternity‑cover position will manage submissions, oversee peer review, and contribute to the journal’s strategic development.

Key responsibilities

• Manage peer review of research papers and commission authors to produce engaging articles.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the global primary‑care community to attract high‑quality submissions.
• Represent the journal at conferences and events, staying abreast of developments in primary care.
• Write editorials and other content as required.
• Help design and launch new initiatives for the journal’s future growth.

Required profile

• MD or PhD with post‑doctoral experience, or a postgraduate degree plus substantial senior editorial experience on a peer‑reviewed STM journal.
• Deep knowledge of biological and medical sciences and broader social issues in primary care.
• Proven ability to build relationships with researchers, clinicians, media and internal teams.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet demanding press deadlines.
• Outstanding command of English and ability to write engagingly.
• Proficiency with IT systems, including MS Office.
