Advanced Practitioner – Blood Transfusion (BMS)

About the role

Are you a proactive Blood Transfusion professional committed to patient safety? Do you thrive on leading change and driving improvement? We are seeking an innovative Advanced Practitioner Biomedical Scientist to lead excellence, governance and continuous improvement across our Essential Service Laboratories at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Blood Transfusion service, ensuring compliance with MHRA and ISO15189 standards.
• Lead technical advancement of the service in partnership with the clinical lead of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
• Guide Team Managers, Biomedical Scientists and support staff across Blood Sciences, including Haematology and Clinical Chemistry.
• Deliver high‑quality transfusion services to clinicians and patients, meeting evolving service needs.

Required profile

• HCPC registration.
• Specialist Diploma in Blood Transfusion (or equivalent).
• MSc in Blood Transfusion.
• Extensive experience in blood transfusion theory and practice.

Required skills

• Blood Transfusion expertise.
• MHRA regulatory knowledge.
• ISO15189 quality standards compliance.
