Advanced Practitioner – Children in Need

About the role

Leicester City Council is seeking an Advanced Practitioner to strengthen its Children in Need team. The role focuses on supporting team managers, developing social workers, and ensuring high‑quality services for children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and mentor less‑experienced Social Workers, embedding practice principles and tools.
• Collaborate with team managers, service managers and the Learning & Development team to deliver comprehensive induction and training programmes.
• Support Social Workers and differently qualified practitioners in applying legislation, policy and practice frameworks.
• Act as a best‑practice resource, staying current with research and promoting evidence‑based practice.
• Contribute to the development of divisional procedures, policies and guidance.
• Ensure service compliance with statutory regulations, policy and national minimum standards.
• Supervise allocated temporary staff and volunteers, providing clear direction and fostering a shared purpose.
• Respect diversity, value team contributions and adapt leadership style to achieve positive outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting and developing Social Workers, preferably within a local authority setting.
• Strong knowledge of statutory regulations, national minimum standards and social work legislation.
• Ability to lead teams, supervise staff and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to evidence‑based practice.
