Advanced Practitioner - Duty and Assessment

About the role

Telford and Wrekin Council is recruiting an experienced Advanced / Senior Practitioner to join its Duty and Assessment Team. The role involves safeguarding children, supporting families early, and working in a fast‑paced hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload, delivering timely assessments, care plans and interventions for children and families.
• Respond to referrals and safeguarding concerns, assess risk and make evidence‑based decisions.
• Complete Child and Family Assessments and contribute to child protection processes and legal proceedings.
• Build effective relationships with children, families and multi‑agency partners to support assessment and planning.
• Apply relevant legislation, policies and best practice to deliver high‑quality, child‑centred services.
• Undertake preventative work with families to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and produce high‑quality reports, assessments and court documentation.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
• Experience in Duty and Assessment, Referral and Assessment, Front Door or Children’s Safeguarding services.
• Strong experience completing Child and Family Assessments, risk assessments and safeguarding investigations.
• Ability to manage complex caseloads, exercise sound professional judgement and make confident decisions under pressure.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and high standards of practice.
