Advanced Sexual Health Practitioner – Primary Care Link

About the role

This position offers an experienced nurse or midwife the chance to lead and deliver advanced sexual and reproductive health (SRH) training to primary care staff across Lothian. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting a diverse client base and contributing to the development of SRH services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide training and mentorship to nursing staff on contraception, genitourinary medicine and long‑acting reversible contraception.
• Collaborate with primary care colleagues to embed SRH best practices within clinical services.
• Lead and manage aspects of the nursing team, contributing to service development and quality improvement.
• Deliver specialist procedures such as subdermal implant insertion and removal, microscopy, and other SRH clinical competencies.

Required profile

• First‑level registered nurse with a current NMC registration.
• Significant post‑registration experience in SRH, including leadership or line‑management responsibilities.
• Faculty Registered Trainer (FRT) status and experience delivering STIF training.
• Willingness to travel across Lothian and work unsocial hours as needed.

Required skills

• Subdermal implant insertion and removal.
• Microscopy techniques.
• CoSRH LoC IUT competency.
• LoC SDI or equivalent local certification.
