Advisor, Radiological Protection

About the role

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking an Advisor in Radiological Protection to support the safety and regulatory compliance of its pioneering small modular reactor design. The role works across Derby, Manchester and Warrington sites and contributes to the integrated Environment, Safety, Security & Safeguards (E3S) case.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert radiological protection input to engineering and E3S teams.
• Support regulatory interactions with UK and international bodies.
• Lead or support ALARP demonstrations and radiological justifications.
• Embed radiological protection requirements into design decisions.
• Develop and execute radiological protection programmes on agreed timelines.

Required profile

• Experience in nuclear or radiological safety engineering.
• Knowledge of UK Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and training delivery.

Required skills

• Understanding of nuclear licensing processes.
