Advisory Lawyer for Government Ministers

About the role
As an Advisory Lawyer you will work directly with Ministers and senior officials across Government Departments, providing high‑quality legal advice and guidance on a wide range of issues. The position offers the chance to influence policy, support legislation and contribute to the public interest.
Key responsibilities
- Provide timely, balanced and risk‑based legal advice to Ministers and departmental officials.
- Draft, review and interpret legislation, policy documents and contractual arrangements.
- Manage a caseload of advisory and litigation matters across sectors such as commercial, employment, EU law and public‑sector regulation.
- Collaborate with other legal professionals within the Government Legal Department and external stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality and, where required, obtain DV security clearance.
Required profile
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Strong analytical judgement and the ability to present complex legal issues clearly.
- Open‑minded, impartial and able to work collaboratively under pressure.
- Willingness to obtain DV security clearance for London‑based work.
Required skills
- Legal research and analysis.
- Risk assessment and advisory drafting.
- Understanding of litigation, commercial, employment and EU legislation.
