Advocate – Part‑time (24 hrs/week) in Sutton

About the role

This is a three‑year pilot project delivering a coordinated Advocacy Resilience and Financial Wellbeing Service for adults recovering from mental health crises and facing financial hardship or risk of homelessness. The role is office‑based in Sutton, working 24 hours per week on a part‑time contract.

Key responsibilities

• Provide short‑term one‑to‑one advocacy support (up to two months) for adults transitioning from detention under the Mental Health Act, Community Treatment Orders, or statutory advocacy.
• Conduct regular face‑to‑face sessions to improve wellbeing post‑crisis.
• Help clients understand financial pressures, develop cost‑of‑living strategies and manage money.
• Assist clients in finding sustainable housing options and navigating housing services.
• Refer clients to mental health, counselling and social prescribing services as needed.
• Support the development of confidence, self‑advocacy skills and long‑term recovery plans.

Required profile

• Person‑centred, empowering approach with a strong focus on rights and independence.
• Ability to work empathetically with vulnerable adults and understand mental health and financial challenges.
• Excellent communication and active‑listening skills.

Required skills

• Experience in advocacy, mental health support or social services.
• Knowledge of housing options and financial wellbeing resources.
• Ability to conduct face‑to‑face sessions and produce clear support plans.
