AI Voice Engineer

About the role

This contract role is focused on designing, building and optimising AI‑powered voice agents that interact with customers in real time. You will join a collaborative data and AI function that is expanding its voice AI capabilities across the UK as part of a wider transformation programme.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise AI‑powered voice agents for real‑world customer interactions.
• Develop and integrate voice pipelines using leading speech and conversational AI technologies.
• Build robust Python‑based services to support conversational workflows.
• Improve voice latency, realism, reasoning capability and overall user experience.
• Evaluate architectural approaches and recommend best practices for scalable voice AI deployment.
• Define a long‑term voice AI framework that balances performance, cost, compliance and customer outcomes.

Required profile

• Strong experience building production‑grade AI voice or conversational AI systems.
• Commercial experience with voice technologies such as Azure Voice, ElevenLabs, Deepgram or similar.
• Excellent Python engineering capability in a production environment.
• Experience working with real‑time conversational systems and voice SDKs.
• Understanding of speech‑to‑text, text‑to‑speech and LLM integrations.
• Ability to challenge technical decisions and operate independently in a fast‑moving environment.
• Exposure to regulated industries or customer‑facing AI solutions is beneficial.

What we offer

• Fully remote contract
• Day rate £300‑£560 (outside IR35)
• Initial 3‑month assignment with potential extension
