Ambulance Communications Officer – Temporary On‑Call

About the role
The Ministry of Health is seeking an Ambulance Communications Officer to join the London Central Ambulance Communications Centre on an irregularly scheduled, on‑call basis. You will be the first point of contact for 9‑1‑1 and non‑emergency ambulance requests, coordinating life‑saving dispatches across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non‑emergency ambulance requests using a complex Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide accurate dispatch information to callers, ambulance crews, and partner agencies such as fire, police, and Ornge Air Ambulance.
- Communicate calmly with individuals under stress, delivering pre‑arrival instructions including first aid and telephone‑assisted CPR.
- Apply critical thinking to assess real‑time situations and direct ambulance movements.
- Complete a six‑week Entry‑to‑Practice training program followed by up to six months of on‑the‑job coaching.
Required profile
- Ability to remain composed and respectful while handling high‑stress calls.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills in emergency contexts.
- Willingness to work irregular hours and be on‑call as needed.
Required skills
- Proficiency with a Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
