API Engineer

About the role

Gigs builds an operating system for mobile services, helping tech companies embed global connectivity into their products. The API Engineer owns complex problems end-to-end, designing and building robust, scalable solutions and maintaining best-in-class APIs and services. The primary codebase is a Ruby on Rails monolith, complemented by services in Go, Elixir and TypeScript.

Key responsibilities

• Own complex problems end-to-end, working with the team to design and build scalable solutions.
• Develop products that let customers deliver world-class connectivity services to their users.
• Improve tooling and processes while upholding high engineering standards.
• Build services with observability in mind and take part in incident response.

Required profile

• Experience designing APIs and building backend services, with a focus on software quality.
• Uses AI as a core part of daily work: prompts agents with context and intent, reviews their output critically and knows when to push back.
• Enjoys building products from scratch and learning new technologies as needed.
• Sees the business impact of engineering work and can make speed/quality trade-offs.

Required skills

• API design and backend service development.
• Knowledge of Ruby on Rails, Go, Elixir and/or TypeScript is helpful but not required; the team supports learning.

What we offer

• Salary range of EUR 110,000-140,000 (EU) or GBP 105,000-135,000 (UK); mid, senior and staff-level candidates may be considered.
