Applied Research Manager – Europe, Middle East & Africa

About the role

Driscoll’s is seeking a visionary Applied Research Manager to lead its DEMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) applied research strategy. Based in Maidstone with flexibility to work from other regional offices, you will travel up to 30% to support research programs and collaborate with stakeholders across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for applied research programs across multiple crops and geographies.
• Design and oversee trial strategies to evaluate new genetics and plant types.
• Lead, develop and inspire the DEMEA Applied Research teams, fostering a culture of curiosity and accountability.
• Communicate research progress and insights through structured reporting and knowledge‑sharing forums.
• Partner with breeding, nursery, product, supply and district teams to translate genetic potential into commercial performance.
• Leverage global research networks to accelerate innovation in plant types and growing systems.
• Develop training programs that strengthen scientific robustness and business acumen.
• Manage the DEMEA Applied Research budget to maximize scientific rigor and business impact.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of experience in applied agricultural research or related fields.
• Proven senior leadership experience with ability to balance scientific rigor and business impact.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across multiple regions and functions.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute trial strategies for new plant genetics.
• Experience managing budgets and leading multidisciplinary teams.
