Apprentice - External Communications

About the role

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority is seeking an enthusiastic Apprentice to support its External Communications team. This 2‑year apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience in public‑sector communications, helping you develop real‑world skills while contributing to regional projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of communications activities and campaigns that drive engagement.
• Create content for a variety of channels, including copywriting and social‑media posts.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights.
• Help monitor, evaluate and report on the performance of communications initiatives.
• Stay informed about current affairs, media trends, and the communications industry.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic, team‑oriented and committed to completing the apprenticeship.
• 5 GCSEs (including English and Maths) at grade 4/C or above.
• Minimum 2 A‑Levels (or equivalent) predicted at grade C or above by August 2026.
• Good communication, organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Positive attitude, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
• Right to work in the UK and meet apprenticeship funding eligibility.

Required skills

• Basic IT proficiency, particularly Microsoft Office.
