Arborist – Oxford Botanic Garden & Arboretum

About the role
The University of Oxford is seeking a qualified Arborist to join the team at the Oxford Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum. You will help maintain and develop a world‑class living collection while ensuring a safe and welcoming experience for visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect, prune and climb trees across the garden and arboretum.
- Carry out habitat management and general grounds maintenance.
- Support public events, educational activities, volunteers and trainees.
- Maintain and service arboricultural equipment to high standards.
- Work safely in line with industry guidance and contribute to biodiversity conservation.
Required profile
- ND, NVQ or NCH qualification in Arboriculture or a related field.
- Proven practical arboricultural experience.
- Knowledge of a wide range of woody plants.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Experience in a public arboretum or botanic garden is advantageous.
Required skills
- NPTC chainsaw qualification.
- NPTC climbing qualifications (CS30.1, CS30.2, CS31, CS38, CS39).
- MEWP certification (advantageous).
- Pesticide application certification (advantageous).
- Basic tree inspection skills (advantageous).
